Cardinal Points (Student Newspaper of SUNY Plattsburgh)

Many thanks to Jenna Burleigh for taking an interest in this topic. Who else is surprised that the financial aid officer thinks it's a bad idea?

This pisses me off everytime I read the people who are opposed!

I think people are missing the idea at times. Sure clearing debt would be all of our greatest dreams come true. We could finally buy a house, settle down, get married, travel the world, buy a car but in all reality these people in our government don't care. They don't see us as a profit. Sure to us realistically, we will help stimulate the economy but these guys don't see it. Kinda like we are a liability. I get mad when people say no it wont work. Of course it will.

My 35k salary, with a debt of 145k will really help the economy. Anyone who can add will know that. I mean that is 1200 a month I could use. I have excellent credit amazingly, haven't defaulted on my loans after 2 years being out and donated to this cause, haha. I have a job in my field of study and I am paying only interest at the moment. That is unbelievable that I am paying interest only because my 35k salary doesn't qualify for consolidation.

Lets face it, if they don't clear our debt at least offer us options. Offer us private lenders an IBR, 0% interest on our loans. Help us with something. If paying our debt is so impossible because we are not banks, auto dealers, then at least open up our options. Use the scholarships that are out there and divide them amongst us. Force tuition to be lowered.

If only 2012 could come sooner, this way we all can hope and pray that the only catastrophic event that will occur is all the back up systems and credit/debt information available to everyone gets wiped clean and we all start with a clean slate. No debt. Wouldn't that be grand :). Best of luck to us, you all are in my prayers. Keep up the good work everyone.
