What a radical idea?!?!
"Debts between the very wealthy or between governments can always be renegotiated and always have been throughout world history. They’re not anything set in stone," says Graeber, author of "Debt: The First 5,000 Years." "It’s, generally speaking, when you have debts owed by the poor to the rich that suddenly debts become a sacred obligation, more important than anything else. The idea of renegotiating them becomes unthinkable."
STOP VOTING AGAINST YOUR OWN ECONOMIC INTERESTS!
OF COURSE the lenders, collections agencies, guarantee agencies and the Wall Street elite think student loan forgiveness is a bad idea.
OF COURSE they're going to characterize the very real struggles of at least 300,000 known people (and who knows how many more?) as just more whining from liberals engaged in "class warfare."
OF COURSE the regressive, rigid ideologues who created this economic mess are going to oppose anything that would help real people climb out of this financial hell.
WHY?
Because, for once, after more than 30 years of coddling from their bought-and-paid-for accomplices in Washingon, they wouldn't directly benefit!
But, when it comes to TARP, the bailouts, obscene corportate welfare, record levels of wealth disparity, tax breaks for the very rich and the Fed giving out $16 trillion in secret, low or no-interest loans to the very same people screaming "class warfare" - that's all just fine
They are right about one thing - there is class warfare going on in America - and has been for about 30 years. But it's not the middle class and the poor who have been waging that war - it's the very people crying out against those who are finally starting to fight back!
I really like this article. It tells it like it is. The government has forgive the rich and powerfull people forever! It is time for the average American to get some relief. I need this relief. I don't mind paying back the money borrowed for my student loans, I just want the interest forgiven. This is the major portion of my debt. I like President Obama's tax increase on the rich also. I have always that is the rich were taxed a straight 20% on their earnings and the average American was taxed 10% that the National debt would be paid in a year or so. Why does everyone think this so hard to grasp. It is 1st grade math! Wake up millionaire, billionaire, pay your dues. We, the average American have for YEARS!!!
