I am currently in the process of being in debt. Well, I am in debt. I just haven't seen the effects of it yet. And paying off that debt has yet to affect my daily expenses. But it does not mean it's far from my mind. The fact that I am knee high in paying off money that I don't have is very frightening to me--But while there is nothing I can do to fast-forward to the future and pay off loans now, is there something else I can do instead of wallowing in my misery? I believe that the answer to this question is yes. And though that debt is waiting for me, years from now at the pointed gates of my private university once I graduate, I would much rather feel ready for it than go into it not having a clue what I'm doing.
So whatever I do, I am committed to working my hardest at always having a job in and out of college. This means working during school and during the summers in between. Getting ahead before reaching that point will be a lot more beneficial than staying stagnant for four years. I think that the key to paying off debt lies in commitment and dedication to education and the value that is in it. Paying off debt might even be a way of saying thank you to the funds received from private student loans, federal college loans, Stafford, undergraduate and graduate student loans. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to receive funding for an education that is vital and has spurred ideas and change that will hopefully one day be seen throughout the world. And I ask myself too if wiping away this debt is primarily for the hope of a stimulated economy or if it is for the benefit of individual wealth and 'cheating the system.' While wiping away student loans would make the economy look significantly different, until that point is reached there needs to be a motivation and determination for getting there. And it has to be handled responsibly and fiscally through working and saving money, all while debt is waiting to pounce once graduation comes along. So until then, we work hard.

love quotes
I graduated from college with a BSW in 1994 and thought I was going to make enough money as a Social Worker. Little did I know that Social Workers do NOT MAKE MUCH MONEY. In fact I was lucky to make $18,000 a year. Living by myself in Texas where living is high, I continued to struggle with all the daily expenses and trying to pay my loans back. The problem was is that for years I could not get anyone to consolidate, I had to find where the loans were. As students know, loans are sold a week after being granted the loan. For me to find the loan was almost impossible...The government probably could enter my social security number and find it! I attempted to pay what I could, some months I did not have it, some months I did. Between paying payments and garnishing my wages, it was hell for me trying to survive in jobs that did not pay even $20,000. Then in 2006 I fell to cancer and was receiving treatment for 6 months. Do you know that whoever is dealing with my defaulted loan was calling me constantly for a payment. They said they were going to garnish my wages and I informed them that I was getting disability and no wages at the time. In August 2006 I went back to work and garnishment started again. I then moved to WV where my elderly mother lived and started another job. Was making good money but $200 a month was not good enough for the "collection" agency to accept. I was furious. I quit paying and told them to garnish because they would receive 15% of my take home pay...with health insurance, taxes, etc. they recieved a little more than $200 a month. Then I ended up in the hospital in September os 2008 with a septic infections which doctors were very worried about. I then went into a nursing home for 30 days after and sent home to stay. I was by myself on disability in WV and was struggling just to pay my daily basics. I was on disability for 8 months where again collection was calling me constantly and saying they would start to take my disability checks. I knew that was a scare tactic. But the biggest thing was that my loan amount kept going up and up and up even tho' I had money garnished, paid myself and they took my income tax. I kept requesting a statement of activity to show where the money is going and they could never provide me with one. In the meantime I get tax statements at the end of the year where I have paid $193, $200 in interest which I know is not correct. I should be paying all interest and I know I have paid more than $193 in a year or $200 in a year. I have yet to this day seen a statment and my loan amount has gone from $50,000 in 1994 to $130,000 today. I am very sure that I am being scammed, everytime I send some money I just know it is going somewhere that is not making any effect on my loan balance. I have heard stories where in this area people have been paying for their loans and finding out later that their money was being "misappropriated" American Education Services was the one that I have heard about and you know what, I am paying American Education Services. I feel that if the President can give the big CEOs from large corporations bailout money that is not even going to be paid back, that I have paid several thousand dollars in taxes in my time to pay out that billions of dollars of bailout money that was supposed to be paid back is not being paid back. I think that instead of thinking of the big whigs in corporations and their bailouts for the corporation or thousands of dollars in bonuses, the government should consider us poor individuals that are working our butts off to make ends meet, have to go to school to make it a "little" better for us; because you know a Bachelor's is not a lucrative degree at this time, it needs to be a graduates degree now. I had to obtain a Social Work License just to make another $4 to $5 an hour but have to pay to keep those CEUs up and license fees. So Obama, Pelosi and all of your Czars, democrats maybe you are looking to far up to the top of the corporate ladder and should look down the ladder and see how difficult it is for those trying to climb one rung at a time sometimes needing help to get to the next level. Oh I am sorry, I don't think half of them remember what it is to be going through the tough times. They talk about their tough experiences in their lives but they have not yet put it to todays citizens and consider who makes this country great, It is not those CEOs making hundreds of thousands of dollars in salaries and bonuses who just get bailed out to continue getting those salaries; It is the hard working, calloused hands people who work in the mines, work in the saw mills, the farms, individuals who are working in those corporations, where the CEOs are being bailed out to keep their salaries, in areas such as accounting, marketing, human resources;those positions that most CEOs do not even know the individuals that hold those important positions. Bail us out Obama, give us a break Obama, If you have the heart, start using it where it means the most for this country and its economy!
"This article was provided by SavvyStudent.com, a site that helps students discover ways to pay for their college education without a private student loan and other resources. A site that helps students enjoy the full college experience without thinking about college loans."
The following is from savvystudent.com:
"Sallie Mae saves students money
As early as 2009, Sallie Mae had come up with another genius way for students to save money, build a good credit history, and pay debts faster with the Smart Option Student Loan. Sallie Mae student loans have proven once more that they’re the crème de la creme of the industry. Now, you can use one of Sallie Mae’s student loans to borrow up to 100% of your education cost. This new program just lessens students’ pay loads, where they can do interest-only payments. Imagine saving up to $8,700 in student loans. Beat That!"
I don't believe this, too good to be true. And what are they getting for this "amazing deal"!!!!
Really?
Job during college pays for your interest (unsubsidized).
Or the money you have saved will eventually go to your subsidized interest anyways.
Considering just undergrad alone:
Probably not graduating in 4 years if you're working full time.
Probably not working full time if you anticipate on graduating in 4 years.
Even public college will require loans for housing, or required meal plans (freshman theft), or gas money (if you commute) if you don't have parents who set aside money for your college.
I'm just saying, some are willing to work and have worked all through out. They will still feel swamped and end up in loan debt because of the poor decisions that preceded them by their elders who have left them financially burdened before they even started.
Then, in the effort to change their position by pursuing a post-secondary education, they are put behind in life and take longer to get a house and start a family if they put these on hold to pay off their loans first.
It's laughable to even think to say "thank you to the funds received from private student loans, federal college loans".
We are going to pay back more than we asked for anyways. It's not a gift, it's a loan. With interest.
More fundamentally than all of this: we should not be so driven to charge so much just to get an education. Just wait, keep it up, we'll have a far worse nation because of this horrible system.
*Edit. I got it the second time I read it. It must be sarcasm. Clever Article :)
