With each passing day, I recognize my country less and less. The so-called "patriots" of the ultra-regressive Tea Party movement are pulling this nation closer and closer to true, textbook fascism -- and it's happening right before our eyes.
Despite their claims of being for smaller government, the policies they actually support are, perhaps, some of the most invasive means of governmental interference imagineable, including regulating who a person can love and, thus, marry, as well as regulating what goes on inside a woman's uterus (apparently a dirty word in the Florida House of Representatives).
Having grossly misinterpreted their mandate from the 2010 midterm elections, regressive Republicans all across the country are using this moment in history to usher in as much of their wish-list as possible, knowing full-well that the public is already experiencing a great deal of buyer's remorse, as evidenced by the number of recall drives happening all across America in an attempt to remove the over-reaching regressives from office.
Of course, had the voters been paying any amount of attention before the election, they'd never have voted for these people to begin with - after all, they're doing exactly what they've been saying they wanted to do for decades - destroying the middle class (of course, they don't actually use those words - they just get unwitting dupes from the middle class to organize, rally and vote against their own interests so as to enrich the greedy plutocrats and oligarchs at the top).
In one of the most bizarre examples of the modern day police state favored by the regressive right, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow discusses how she personally became a lightening rod for vindictive regressives seeking to undermine Constitutionally protected rights, such as the 1st Amendment right to free speech.
The uneducated, ignorant, mouth-foaming regressives that make up the tea party have been in an uproar ever since the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States, claiming at each turn that they're losing their freedoms. However, if you ask any one of them to articulate what freedoms they've actually lost, get ready for some incomprehensible word salad coupled with Tourettes-like shouts of "socialism!" with no meaningful response whatsoever to the perfectly valid question posed.
Proving that their rhetoric fails miserably in terms of matching their actions, not a peep can be heard from the regressive right about the implications of the regressives in Michigan's requests for all public employees' emails containing, among other words, "Maddow." What other explanation for such a request can there be, other than a political vendetta predicated upon some fairly shaky legal grounds?
This is how it starts, folks. It may not be illegal to use the word "Maddow" in an email from a public employee's account (yet), but the chilling effect on speech that such a move could have is a dangerous - and real - affront to our freedoms that no so-called patriot would or could ever support.
