I graduated from a public university in 2007 with $20,000 in student loan debt.
The economy was especially bad where I live so a took a job working minimum wage. After the six month loan forgiveness period, I started paying the minimum payment on my student loans. I figured, "I chose to go to college and I chose to do so in a manner that required student loans." so I felt responsible for the money I owed.
I worked hard, earning every raise. I made the management notice my skills and eagerness to advance. Finally, after three years, I got the promotion that I was waiting for. I immediately started paying extra on my loan payments.
I have since paid off all my student loans. It took four years but I have no debt. My wife started her studies at community college and worked her way through school. She, also, has no student debt.
I find it discouraging that members of my generation are demanding a bailout. I do not discount your passion, your fervor. But, if you transform the energy you spend on this campaing into working a second job, creating assets, or furthering your career, you would be much better off.
Thank you for reading... I fully expect a flurry of negative comments. Are there any others like myself?
