A Story on Student Debt from My Hometown Paper: The Staten Island Advance

For three and a half years, I've been giving interviews to newspapers, television shows, magazines, radio shows and blogs.  This article, however, holds a special place in my heart as it's the paper I grew up with and it's where my and neighbors who haven't been paying close attention will learn more about what it is I do.  It's the first time I've been featured in the Advance since 1979, when I appeared in a feature called "Children Say Being Good Just Isn't Easy."  Thanks to the reporter, Jillian Jorgensen, for the diligent research and attention to detail that makes this such a great piece!

We're Still Shy of Our Goal

 Dear Friends and Supporters:

As I wrote to you the other day, FSLD is seeking to incorporate as a non-profit and is seeking tax-exempt status from the IRS.  I sent out a request for modest donations and the response was incredible.  Within 24 hours, we were 3/4ths of the way to our goal of $2000.  Unfortunately, that's when the donations stopped trickling in.

Inside Higher Ed: How Student Debt Became a Focus of the Presidential Campaign

Damn right, I'm feeling vindicated!  I raised these issues 3.5 years ago - not because I'm a prophet, but because I have a basic understanding of economics and arithmetic.  It may have taken a few years for Washington, D.C. to take notice, but now this issue cannot be ignored!
